Ara Zohrabyan: If I'm the only candidate, it does not mean I shall be elected by all means (video)
My opponents were not sure that the majority of advocates would vote for them, therefore they did not run for the seat, Chairman of the Chamber of Advocates Ara Zohrabyan said during a meeting with journalists on Sept. 5. He said this in reply to the question why he was the only candidate in the upcoming elections. He stressed that all advocates who have ten years' experience of working as a lawyer could run in the elections. “I do not suffer from delusion of grandeur but I think that my opponents are saying insults when they say they are a qualified minority,” Mr. Zohrabyan said adding that if some advocates wanted ‘to save the Chamber of Advocates from him’ they could have field a joint candidate against him. “Anyway, if I'm the only candidate, it does not mean I shall be elected by any means. More than half of the advocates may not participate in the elections or they may all vote against me,” he continued. Elections are slated for September 9. Ara Zohrabyan was elected to the post in September, 2013.
