On May 1st, Yazidis in Armenian celebrate their National Union Day. Today at the press conference Head of the Union of Yazidis Aziz Tamoyan thanked the government of Armenia and Armenian people, that in 2002 on May 1st, Armenia was the first and only country in the world, which officially recognized the language of Yazidis and their national religion. “For centuries our language and religion weren’t officially recognized in any country. Only in Armenia it was recognized officially and based on it the European Union, the European Parliament, other international structures recognized the language of Yazidis.” As of now 60-65 thousands Yazidis live in Armenia, and their number in the world reaches 3 million. According to the words of A. Tamoyan, it should be a feast not only for the Yazidis living in Armenia, but Yazidis throughout the world. “It is a holiday for us, we lay tables at our houses and make holiday dishes, we sing, dance, it is a serious, historic day for us.”
