The Civil Agreement Party is not going to join the “No” front campaigning against the draft constitution as its members think the agenda of the constitutional amendments is false. “Everyone says that the main purpose of the draft constitution is to ensure the reproduction of Serzh Sargsyan. A question arises: won’t Sargsyan come to power again if the amendments are not adopted? Of course, he will. Therefore, we advise everyone to prepare for the upcoming elections,” said Alen Simonyan, a member of the Civil Agreement Party. He adds that the form of government will not matter unless the country has an institutional opposition, otherwise, the authorities will win all elections. As a citizen of the Republic of Armenia, Alen Simonyan has decided to participate in the constitutional referendum on Armenia's switch to the parliamentary system of government and say “no” to the constitution proposed by Serzh Sargsyan. “But I do not urge anyone to vote against the bill. We have not even discussed the issue inside the party as it is a waste of time bothering people on this issue,” he said. The member of the Civil Agreement Party believes that nothing will change in Armenia and it does not matter whether the constitution is changed or not. “E should fight against the acting authorities, rather than against the Constitution. We should fight against Tigran Sargsyan’s new office and the like. We are going to overthrow the authorities.” Alen Simonyan says it is quite easy to say “no.” “Likewise, we can say “no” and seat without doing anything. If they have a plan of definite actions we are ready to go and discuss it with them,” he said. In reply to A1+ why they did not develop that plan of actions, Mr Simonyan said, “We have it and we are trying to create an institutional opposition. The draft constitution was proposed by Serzh Sargsyan and we do not want to get involved in it.”
