A two-day seminar Coalition for Trust in South Caucasus has launched in Yerevan. The event organised by the Norwegian Helsinki Committee already for the third year has brought together young people from Armenia, Nagorno Karabakh, Georgia, Abkhazia and South Ossetia, as well as Azerbaijan. The representatives from Azerbaijan, as Secretary-General of the Norwegian Helsinki Committee Bjørn Engesland said, have appeared in a most difficult situation in terms of human rights protection. It was impossible to arrange Azerbaijani delegates’ visit to Yerevan, therefore the participants contact them via Skype. The aim of the program to create an opportunity for local human rights organizations to cope withthe current challenges in this region that refer to human rights. The biggest concern that we have today is the existence of political prisoners in Azerbaijan. Many of our friends are now imprisoned and cannot work but we are doing everything for them to have the opportunity again,” Mr Engesland said. About 25 students are participating in the event from the Caucasus region. Nukri Palashvili, a member of the Georgian delegation, says the conflict between Georgia and South Ossetia as well as Abkhazian will not prevent them from getting in touch with their peers from these unrecognized republics, because the youth wants one thing – peace. “I believe we will not encounter any problem. Young people are obliged to communicate with each other, know each other and know that we are citizens who strive for peace in our families, in our countries, and of course in the entire world,” he said.
