Minister: We inherited rotten system (video)
Armenia’s Minister of Justice Hovhannes Manukyan has visited all penitentiaries and is well aware of the situation in Armenian prisons. “I must say that we inherited from the Soviet Union a rotten system and we cannot improve the shameful conditions in 20 or 25 years,” Mr Manukyan said to A1+. The minister says they are already taking measures to better the situation in prisons and he cited the example of Armavir penitentiary institution. “Since we have scarce resources we try to restore the other prisons, provide normal conditions for inmates, but it is a matter of time,” he said.
