'Suspicious' pigs denied entry to Armenia
The State Service for Food Safety (SSFS) under the Armenian Ministry of Agriculture today presented its official website.
In his opening remarks, SSFS Head Abram Bakhchagulyan said besides its primary function, the site is also a flexible system for receiving first-hand information. The website will enable people to get information about SSFS's activities, service-related legislation, news, etc.
Abram Bakhchagulyan also answered questions concerning food storage problems in summer.
"Foodstuffs have storage conditions and the expiry date on their packaging. Economic entities are obliged to maintain the conditions to ensure the safety of the product. Likewise, consumers should be careful with the storage and follow the maintenance instructions," Bakhchagulyan told A1+.
He says the service carries out regular inspections and check-ups and removes from sale food products that are without labeling or outdated.
"During a recent border checkup, we did not allow milk powder that was past its expiration date to be imported to Armenia. A week ago, we banned the import of pigs near Gogavan border checkpoints as the animals did not meet veterinary requirements," he said.
