Employees of Malatia fair in Yerevan's Malatia-Sebastia administrative district were staging a strike today against the decision of the market director to increase the rental fees.

"We pay 6,000 drams a day for the rented area. We need to sell at least four pieces of clothing to be able to pay the rent but the trade has stopped and we cannot afford to pay the fees," said Anush Mkrtchyan, an employee of the market.

Many of the angered protesters blame the mess on the authorities.

"This is White Genocide. If we had a president elected by people, we would not have appeared in this situation," said Julia Vardanyan.

Head of Malatia-Sebastia administrative district, David Ohanyan, who had arrived at the market to talk to the striking employees, met with the market director Radik Sargsyan to discuss the problem and find a relevant solution.

After the meeting, Ohanyan suggested the salespeople to wait till May 2 and asked them to go back to work. In the meantime, they will hold joint meetings to discuss the issue.

Although the district head said the problem will be resolved within the shortest timeframe, the salespeople refused to go to work. They do not believe in positive changes.
