No official showed up to meet Syrian-Armenians
Fifty-five Syrian-Armenians arrived in Yerevan on Wednesday on a Latakia-Yerevan flight. In recent weeks they longed to return to Armenia and it became a kind of unrealizable dream for them.
Hovhannes Hovhannisyan, who arrived in Yerevan with his wife, says their stay in Syria was already dangerous and useless.
Andranik Abrahamyan no longer believed that he would be able to see Armenia again. He had been waiting for the day for a month; the flights had been regularly delayed. When he was informed about the upcoming flight, Abrahamyan was so delighted that he forgot to take essential items with him.
No flights were operated from Aleppo since December 25, 2012. The flights scheduled for January 8 and 15 were canceled for security reasons. Syrian Air will operate the next flight on January 29.
No one came to meet the Syrian-Armenians who do not have relatives or friends in Armenia.
