WHAT THE USE OF AMENDMENTS?
Support A1+!Venice Commission, OSCE and international experts are waiting altered version of electoral code, the head of the OSCE Yerevan office Elaine Conkievich said Friday speaking at a meeting held by Cooperation for the Sake of Open Society initiative.
He said they will wait patiently, as they want the version to conform fully to people interests.
The head of the National Assembly’s commission on state and legal issues Hovhanness Margaryan said 90% of all remarks made by Venice Commission had been taken into account and proposals are being considered now. Amendments to the electoral code will still be put on National Assembly’s floor for approval.
A member of parliament from Orinats Erkir spoke on electoral code amendments, among which was one, according to which lists of voters no longer will be composed by local governing bodies’ officials. Special police units will do that. Besides, fingerprints will be taken from voters.
Democracy NGO deputy chair Hrayr Tovmasyan objected saying few will agree to go to police in the event of failing to find their names in lists.
He said after examining the amendments he had come to sad realisation that nothing would change after their approval.
