”Europe doesn’t imagine what to do but knows it must do”, Alexander Iskandaryan, Vice Director of Caucasian Media Institute, who has recently returned from Brussels, describes “New Neighbours” of European Union this way.
According to him, this program is a display of a political will since EU doesn’t want to tolerate a chaos near its gates.
By 2005 March the reports on the 3 states of Southern Caucasus must be ready. The report on Georgia is already prepared. The ones over Armenia and Azerbaijan have yet started. EU will show an individual approach to its new neighbours. The programs on actions and financing will be different.
”What do the South Caucasus states expect from cooperation with EU”?, a foreign guest asked at a round table discussion in Institute. According to Iskandaryan, EU is a Santa Claus who will throw down his sack and money, democracy, stability, security etc – what we don’t have, will come out of it.
