SHAVARSH KOCHARYAN SPEAKING
Support A1+!On Tuesday, opposition MP Shavarsh Kocharyan, speaking at a news conference on the situation in Ukraine, came to conclusion that unlike Ukrainian or Georgian opposition, Armenian opposition failed to oust the republic current leadership because of lack of public demand.
The opposition activist tried to lump the blame on people again.
He was reminded that Armenian people took to the streets and staged protest actions, but not always the opposition leaders were along with them.
“All of us are responsible”, he said.
Shavarsh Kocharyan criticized the policy Armenia’s leadership pursues at present. In his words, the isolated republic is loosing today in all areas as a result of current authorities’ foreign and home policy.
He said Russia needed obedient puppets, not mighty partners. In his words, Russia doesn’t consider Armenia as a partner. Today Russia is speaking about two railways – Russia-Azerbaijan-Iran and Russia-Georgia-Turkey without mentioning Russia-Armenia-Turkey already existing railway, he said.
Kocharyan sees democratization as the only way out of the current situation.
He is convinced that democracy is at the same level in Armenia and Azerbaijan though Azerbaijan is now in more advantageous state because of its oil, geographical location and support from Turkey.
As an example proving this “advantageous state”, the MP singled out Azerbaijan’s 2005 state budget. He compared it with Armenian one: Azerbaijan’s budget is over 2 billion USD while Armenia’s is about 700 millions.
