NARINE MKRTCHYAN: NEWSPAPERS NEED TO BE TRULY INDEPENDENT
Support A1+!National Press Club chair and Ambion newspaper editor-in-chief Narine Mkrtchyan speaking at a news conference today said Armenian newspapers’ key unsolved problem is lack of touch with the community.
In her opinion, to speed up economic growth “we need to make our newspapers truly independent”.
“Nowadays, newspapers in the republic are politicised. That has pernicious effect on journalists”, she said.
Speaking on Ambion newspaper’s first anniversary, Narine Mkrtchyan said the newspaper had managed to remain independent throughout this year.
Thought there are some problems the Ambion faced, in particular, those related to distribution and advertising, which could be solved only in a free, independent and democratic country, she said.
