”Armenia can correspond to the European standards only in case of possessing a political will”, Karo Hakobyan, Chair for Assembly of Armenians of Europe, residing in Sweden, thinks.

He is discontented with the fact that they are not aware of the events in Armenia. Mr. Hakobyan says the Armenians of Europe are more interested in the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide and settlement of Karabakhi conflict. Hakobyan thinks NKR conflict to be regulated within OSCE Minsk Group format. “It is wiser”.

Beginning from the second half of 2004 Netherlands will be the presiding country in EU. Turkey membership in EU will probably be reconsidered in autumn.

According to Mato Hakhverdyan, Chair of Armenian Unions’ Federation of Netherlands, they have much to do for recognition of the Armenian Genocide.

Netherlands are not so well-disposed towards Armenians in this case. “Our task is that the issues of the Armenian Genocide, Armenian minorities in Turkey, improvement of relations with Armenia and opening the frontier are included in the Copenhagen criteria”, Hakhverdyan says.
