ARMENIAN NATION-WIDE MOVEMENT INSULTED BY LIBELLOUS STATEMENT

Politics

“Authorities began to curse us while taking office and continue to do it now. Why they afraid of us so much? And that is right: they have to be afraid, because we have no intention to come to terms with illegal authorities”, David Shahnazaryan, one of Armenian Nation-wide Movement leaders, said at today’s press conference.

He said the party was reluctant to convene press conference to express the party reaction to recent events and respond to the libellous statement by the authorities about “return of revengeful ANM”.

“Be calm down, Sirs, the ANM won’t come back”, said Shahnazaryan and addressed state-owned Public television invoking the party’s legitimate right to televised speech for answering the slander.

Then Shahnazaryan presented the party stance toward the presidential elections. “The key objective of our party is the legitimate authorities to take office. It can be put into reality if an Armenian citizen becomes a president”, he said.

In his words, as many as a half a million votes were rigged in favour of Kocharyan and a real number of votes cast for him doesn’t exceed 14%. Armenian Nation-wide Movement stated that the election results announced by the Central Electoral Commission are nothing more than high-ranking officials’ order.

It was the large-scale public protest that hindered the commission from recognising Kocharyan a winner, Shahnazaryan said and urged people to attend rallies despite any threat.

“Whoever elected we will remain to be opposition”, he said.
