AT LAST HE SPOKE
Support A1+!Candidate for presidency Artashes Geghamyan is going to appeal to CEC on February 25 with demand for declaring invalid the process and results of the first round of the presidential elections and beginning new ones .
If CEC doesn’t satisfy his demand, an attempt will be made to move the same issue before Constitutional Court on February 26. National Unity Party members aim to secure presence of European observers in Constitutional Court. To make public this decision, Geghamyan held a press conference.
He thinks he is the most appropriate candidate for Authorities as he had announced at one of the TV speeches he would provide proper leaving of the present officials if normal change of Authorities . But the present Authorities “shamelessly tore the voting papers for Geghamyan” , as they realised that Kocharyan would obviously sustain a defeat if competing with Artashes Geghamyan in the second round. Now Authorities regret, Geghamyan is sure.
He also thinks Authorities understood they are endangered and he is the only guarantee to prevent bloodshed . After Geghamyan left, neglecting journalists’ wish to contact with him. Alexan Karapetyan, head for Geghamyan’s pre-election headquarters and Aghassi Arshakyan, the executive for relations with the public, stayed in the hall. They were evasive for the key questions, interesting the public.
They didn’t comment on the decision of some political powers on joining Stepan Demirchyan in the second round after seconding Geghamyan. The issue hasn’t been discussed at the common headquarters and as Alexan Karapetyan said, “The common headquarters has no commission to dictate” .
As to the leaflets, spread on February 18 through which Artashes Geghamyan was supposedly discredited in favour of Stepan Demirchyan. “Leaflets can be spread by Authorities as well to arouse discord between Stepan Demirchyan and us. I consider it as a provocation” , Karapetyan says.
Journalists didn’t manage to make it more accurate what the stance of National Unity will be if the turn for the second round of the election comes. The position of Geghamyan and his supporters is the following - accepting the version of the second phase means to accept the process and results of the first round under which Robert Kocharyan won more than 700.000 votes. National Unity members think Kocharyan couldn’t have won so many votes. Besides, they put the emphasis on the statement signed by the 6 candidates for presidency on February 19, at 5: 00 PM. According to it, the irregularities, committed at the course of the elections, don’t enable to consider the president elected as a legitimate one, whoever he is.
After the meeting in the National Unity party it was evident Geghamyan and his party are against the meeting-like manner of working and think it to be a way to bloodshed .
