Political analyst: Who will stand surety for these territories in exchange for status? (video)
Ethnographer Hranush Kharatyan today expressed her opinion on Azerbaijan’s latest statements, Azerbaijani-Turkish military exercises in Nakhichevan and the visit of parliamentarians to Artsakh. Neither Azerbaijan’s loud statements, nor Turkish-Azeri military exercises are a novelty for us. Azerbaijan used Turkish weapons during the Artsakh war as well. Even taking into account the spectrum of our internal problems, Armenia will have difficulty in negotiating with a country that has no sense of responsibility. Given the four-day war in Karabakh last in April 2016, I cannot rule out new hostilities but they will not grow into a war,” she said. “Armenia does not properly present its arguments and positions on the Karabakh conflict. Personally, I think that it was a bad dement for us. The Kazan Document was even worse. Both of them suggest a phased settlement of the conflict,” she continued. Political analyst Anush Sedrakyan said if Armenia is committed to a peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict it must be able to work more actively with European institutions and media. The Karabakh conflict cannot and must not be compared with any other conflict in the world. Now we often hear talks about possible territorial surrender in place of status. In the past, I supported that approach but after we lost 800 hectares of land in the April war I understood that the enemy was getting much closer to us. That is why I am against concessions. Who will stand surety for these territories in exchange for status? Russia? I wonder where our diplomacy is taking us,” she said.
