The decision of the Armenian government to put up a number of state buildings for sale is yet another shame for us, says the chairman of the Democratic Party of Armenia (HDK). “When you announce that you are selling a medical or a scientific institution do you care whether the buyer will maintain its profile or not? Those buildings later become casinos or something like that and do not maintain their functions. The state has no right to sell everything,” said Aram Sargsyan. He believes that with this step the government wants to fill the budget deficit and provide part of the investments promised by the prime minister. “The premier pledged to attract an $800 million investment into Armenia but so far nothing has been done, therefore they have decided to sell state buildings to conceal the results of their poor policy. They will never touch their own businesses, that is why they are selling state property,” he Mr Sargsyan said.
