Republican MP: 10000 drams not a bribe (video)

The parliamentary elections held in Armenia on April 2 marked a step forward, says Republican Gagik Minasyan. “There were negative phenomena as well but they did not affect the outcome of the elections. The very fact that the political forces did not apply to the Central Electoral Commission speaks to my words,” Mr Minasyan said today. The Republican lawmaker does not hurry to call the 10000 drams distributed to voters before the voting “election bribes.” He says it is another thing. “When you bribe someone, you give him money to do whatever you tell him. But when you cannot control and check whether he has done his work or not it is not a bribe. As you know it is impossible to control and know who the citizen has voted for in the polling booth,” he said. It is quite a different thing when people do not revolt. “If after all this, people go and vote for the person who has humiliated them, I cannot say anything; they should not cast their ballots for that person.” In reply to A1+’s question whether the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) does not regret that some of its members, including Hovhannes Sahakyan, Vardan Ayvazyan and Artak Davtyan, did not enter the parliament, Mr Minasyan said, “Some are elected, others not. This is a normal process.”
