As of now no foreign power needs escalation of Karabakh conflict, said Fyodor Lukyanov, political analyst, scientific director of Valdai International Discussion Club, Editor-in-Chief of “Russia in global politics” magazine. “Possible escalation is much discussed in Armenia especially after April war. But for different reasons no foreign power needs escalation of Karabakh conflict, which is very relative, but positive,” he noted. According to the political expert, the possible escalation of conflict is harmful, unnecessary and disturbing for Russia. Russia is interested in maintenance of balance in South Caucasus. “As of now I cannot see any other solution than fragile, but, anyway, peaceful preservation of status-quo,” highlighted F. Lukyanov. He thinks that the USA is now engaged in other issues, Europe has been removed as a factor, everybody knows about morality of Turkey’s stance, but it is also now engaged in other, more important problems. “In terms of that besides logic of this or that state, there isn’t any foreign incentive. Fuss arises when inner inertia is in line with external interests, but as of now there is no foreign interest in Karabakh conflict,” summed up the analyst.
