Gagik Tsarukyan to resident of Berd town: Come to Yerevan tomorrow and you will be operated on
The opposition alliance led by influential businessman Gagik Tsarukyan today met residents of Berd, a town in Armenia’s northeastern Tavush region as part of its election campaign for Armenia’s upcoming parliamentary elections. After addressing the participants of the meeting, Gagik Tsarukyan came down to talk to people. He promised almost everyone financial assistance in a matter of days. One of the locals said she needed surgery but cou not afford it. “Come to Yerevan tomorrow and you will be operated on there,” said Tsarukyan. Another resident said they did not have gas in their home because they cannot pay the money. “Hayk, have this man supplied with gas by tomorrow,” Tsarukyan said addressing to Hayk Ghukasyan, an election candidate in a local constituency running on the list of the Tsarukyan alliance. Gagik Tsarukyan said he knew and understood the problems faced by citizens. “Do not ask him more questions. I am giving you my phone number. You all know me very well. Call me and we shall address your problems,” said Hayk Ghukasyan. Five political parties and four alliances are competing for at least 101 seats in the new parliament that will be elected on April 2. The parties and the blocs will have to win at least 5 percent and 7 percent of the vote respectively in order to take seats in the next parliament. The election campaign kicked off on March 5 and will last until March 31.
