Members of the Armenian National Congress (HAK) led by the country’s first President Levon Ter-Petrosyan celebrated the 25th anniversary of Armenia’s independence with their associates and supporters. Levon Ter-Petrosyan did not make a speech. Nor did he want to answer questions. “Unfortunately, the burden of strengthening our independence will fall on the shoulders of the political force which won, strengthened and preserved that independence,” HAK Vice-Chairman Levon Zurabyan said on September 21. Yervand Manaryan, Honored Artist of Armenia, says Armenia's independence is something unearthly. “You should believe that it is yours and no one else’s. If you love something, you have to fight for it, you should definitely put it above everything if you believe that it is yours,” he said. Freedom fighter Myasnik Malkhasyan says Independence Day would turn into a real holiday if the migration rates did not increase day by day. “To be able to feel the fruits of independence you should be able to live, create, build on your own land, develop and strengthen your country and be proud of its achievements,” he says. “Unfortunately, the people who won our independence are not at the square to celebrate the 25th anniversary of independence. These people were to enjoy the fruits of this independence. I regret to hear talks about territorial concession 25 years later...”
