During the discussion of the Ombudsman’s annual report at the Armenian National Assembly, opposition lawmaker Gagik Jhangiryan addressed Ombudsman Karen Andreasyan, saying, “You are a young ombudsman and you have raised hundreds of problems in your report, though you have confessed that most of them will remain unsolved. It turns out you do not get pleasure from your job because you do not have leverages to solve these problems. Don’t you want to resign from your position?” Then Mr Jhangiryan spoke about a statement which the Ombudsman had withdrawn from the Constitutional Court explaining that the government had submitting a similar initiative to the National Assembly. Mr Andreasyan said he did not have any desire to resign. “Moreover, I know few lawyers, at least among my acquaintances, who would do my job more effectively in this historical period. When I see there is someone who would carry out the work much better in the given situation, I shall consider my resignation. As for the pleasure [you were speaking about], I must say that a bitter job like this is unlikely to satisfy anyone. The thought that you have been able to help at least one person among a hundred people is already enough to feel contentment; it overrides the other pleasures. I wish each of you to experience such satisfaction,” he said. Gagik Jhangiryan again reminded of the statement withdrawn from the CC and said he was well aware of the document and remembers everything very well. “If you want us to be honest and fair, you should be the first to do it,” said the lawmaker. “One usually tells the truth to those who want to hear the truth,” replied the ombudsman.
