Important documents on EEU site available only in Russian, says NGO
According to official statements and documents, all member states of the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) have equal rights. The fist violation of these documents concerns the use of language. “EEU’s official website is, at first glance, beautify translated and is available on all languages of its member states. Since Armenian is our Mother Tongue, we would naturally want to get acquainted with the content of the website in Armenian. But as soon as you begin to search for more detailed information you face a language barrier,” says the Union of Informed Citizens NGO. “All documents posted on the website are in Russian, and one needs to have a good command of the language to understand these important documents which contain numerous terms. “Even the decision to hold the next sitting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Yerevan in November is available only in Russian. “Thus, if one wants to know the EEU program for 2015, the work done until now, make comparisons or get information about the upcoming events and/or important decisions, one should know perfect Russian. “And if we consider the fact that some EEU decisions are binding for Armenia, we can say that certain laws and regulations are applied for Armenian citizens and organizations which are not even translated into Armenian. “Therefore, we can state that the absence of Armenian translations contradicts the RA Law on Language, the acting and draft constitutions and violates the rights of citizens who do not know the Russian language,” the Union said.
