Aram Harutyunyan: Many political figures paid lip service to Sargsyan and are now dancing on a pole (video)
“The opposition in Armenia has assumed an “ostrich posture” and does not want to see what the authorities are doing around them,” National Accord party leader Aram Harutyunyan said on October 14 when assessing the political situation in the country. Speaking about the urgency of constitutional amendments initiated by Serzh Sargsyan, Mr Harutyunyan said, “The president could not play three games of chess at a time, therefore he decided to play checkers. The authorities have drafted a lovely scenario.” Aram Harutyunyan does not think that the No front campaigning against the constitutional amendments will achieve tangible results in its struggle. “New Armenia” Movement was to join the No camp. People went and gave their signatures and now these people say the issue will be resolved before the referendum but I do not think that they will achieve successes before December 6,” he said. « Speaking about the political situation in Armenia, the leader of the National Accord Party spoke about Artur Baghdasaryan, Chairman of the Country of Law Party (OEK). “Serzh Sargsyan said at the OEK congress that it is very difficult to be Artur Baghdasaryan. Yes, I agree that it is very difficult [to be Artur Baghdasaryan]. He is the only person who has supported the three presidents in Armenia and has now put on a mask of an oppositionist. Artur Baghdasaryan is like “Zhorik” for Sargsyan. No matter how hard Dashnaks try to please the authorities, Baghdasaryan will ne second in the elections.” Aram Harutyunyan is convinced that Serzh Sargsyan ‘is a weak president.’ “Everybody hates him in his Republican Party. Unlike Putin, Sargsyan does not have an aide like Medvedev to make him president and then take the seat from him again. Sargsyan relies on soft things. Many political figures, who paid lip service to him over years, are now dancing on a pole,” he said. Mr Harutyunyan assured us that he gets in touch with people and is well aware of their problems. “I wonder how our people can survive in these conditions and believe some figures,” he said.
