RISE IN FARE
The fee of minibuses has gone up in Noyemberian since May 15. Passengers will henceforth pay 100 drams instead of former 50 regardless of the route duration. Drivers say the rise in fee is determined by the recent rise of natural gas.
ORPHANAGE LEAVERS FACE SERIOUS PROBLEMS
Six leavers of the “Huys” Orphanage, Gyumri, have been involved in the “Programme of Orphanage Seniors” of the RoA Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.
BUS FARE WENT UP
Prices of freight services were expected to go up after the recent rise in price of natural gas. A new 400-dram fee has been fixed for a Noyemberian-Bagratashen route instead of the former 350 drams.
MULTI-CHILDREN FAMILY HAS NOWHERE TO LIVE
Resident of Kapan town, Evgenia, lives in a rented flat with her nine children. The family is obliged to vacate the flat and look for another for the eighth time. It is four years she has taken care of her children herself.
LABOUR MIGRATION IS OBVIOUS
Farmers of Noyemberian are disappointed with everlasting hails, torrents and droughts. The region also faces problems with stock-breeding as cattle die because of various diseases.
RUBBISH-HEAPS AT EVERY STEP
Residents of Abovian town dump garbage and debris in the streets after garbage trucks disappear. Garbage cans stand half-full surrounded with garbage sacks wrapped in cellophane.
CUTTING DOWN TREES FOR JUST ANOTHER CAFE
Trees were cut down for just another café in a park only 30 meters far from Tavush Regional Council, Ijevan. Evidently, the number of huge trees logged will increase since some of them are already standing with bare roots.
ABOVIAN-YEREVAN ROUTE RESUMED
Abovian-Yerevan route Number 113 is resumed under Number 259. “King Deluxe” CJSC, which has imported 6 “Bogdan” buses, will be responsible for the route. Though having 22 seats the buses are allowed to take 40 passengers at a time.
GARBAGE COLLECTED
The environs of a spring in Artsvanuk settlement adjacent to Kapan-Yerevan highway reminds of a dump. A sanitary cleaning of the area has been organised upon the initiative of Syunik’s ecology department, regional forestry and State Reserve.
LANDS ARE NOT TILLED
The arable lands of the Dzrovker settlement near the Tavush-Azerbaijan frontier haven’t been cultivated this year. The tractor was shelled by Azerbaijanis while tilling the land in the spring. Zakar Alexanian, the driver of the tractor, was forced to stop the work.
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR POSITION VACANT
For months Gyumri Dramatic Theatre after Vardan Achemian has been functioning without an executive director and chief producer. Despite the promises of Culture Minister the two positions are still vacant.
REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE DEFEATED
An election of a village head was conducted in Khashtarak village, Tavush Marz, on April 20. The Electoral Commission reports that the acting village head, Republican Arthur Vanessian got 325 votes for. His contestants, freelance Hayk Kamalian and Volodia Virabian got 513 and 139 votes respectively.
FORESTS HAVE TURNED INTO DUMP
Domestic waste dumped in the forests of Noyemberian distorts the dazzling beauty of the sight. People going on a picnic usually leave plastic bottles, cellophane sacks near forest springs. The head of the local forestry, Vasil Chilngarian, is also concerned about the current situation.
RESIDENTS INDIGNANT AT RISE IN PRICES
The rise in gas price has aroused serious concern and complaint not only in the capital but also in RA marzes. Residents of Armavir Marz mainly complain of unemployment. “We cannot afford communal services as we are unemployed. There are hardly any workplaces in the marz,” they say.
SYUNIK MARZ LACKS TECHNIQUES
Over 6800-hectare spring sowing is foreseen in Syunik marz this year. The arable lands of the marz enlarge every year. Agronomists explain the expansion by the rise in price of wheat and barley.
8 YEAR-OLD VACHAGAN NOT FOUND
For 24 days the police have been looking for 8 year-old Vachagan Asatrian, resident of Arapi village. The river surroundings and the Akhurian reservoir have totally been examined with no result. Anyway, the parents believe their son is not in the water.
SLAUGHTER IN CITY CENTRE
Every day animals are slaughtered in the centre of Ijevan town, on the bank of the Aghstev River. Entrails are thrown into the river and meat is sold in the street amid dust and smoke. Meanwhile, the City Hall has declared tourism the city's high priority.
DISTRICT HAS TURNED INTO DUMP
Gharibjanian macadam road of Gyumri has turned into a dump. Debris and domestic rubbish have been dumped just at the entrance Gyumri-Armavir highway.
WATER PIPE ACCIDENT
3 days ago Gyumri’s Peace Square was alarmed. Local residents warned Shirak Water-Pipe System they had been deprived of water supply since April 7. The service is now in to find out the cause. There is no sign of an outer accident. Water pipes run through the cellars which causes great difficulties in operations.
FRONTIER VILLAGES HAVE EMPTIED
There were about 300 pupils in the village of Voskepar, Tavush Marz, in the mid-1980s. Today their number has reduced to 138. Over the past years many dwellers of Voslepar have moved to the Russian town Stari Oskol. Today residents jokingly name the town “New Voskepar.”
GYUMRI SUBURB TURNS INTO DUMP
Residents of one of Gyumri suburbs, located on 124 Gyumri-Armavir highway have been protesting against turning their neighborhood into a dump. Since the fall of 2007 debris and domestic rubbish have been deposited next to their homes, which led the commoners to controversies with trash-van drivers.
VAHAN HOVHANNISYAN VISITS VILLAGES
The presidential candidate Vahan Hovhannisyan continued his campaign today in the region of Shirak. He met the residents of Ashotsk, Amasia and Marmashen.
NO TREE HAS BEEN PLANTED IN GYUMRI
Over 400-hectare timberland was cut down in Shirak Marz in the 90s. Today only one percent of Gyumri is afforested.
ANIMALS DIE OF COLD
Although Gyumri branch of the State Museum of Nature is gasificated, it has not been heated since the day of its foundation. Some animals live in the employees’ or the director’s houses during the winter months. The Museum is hardly surviving owing to the employees.
