Writer Vrezh Israelyan found dead
Famed writer, dramatist Vrezh Israelyan was found dead in his Yerevan apartment on June 14, Department of Public Relations and Information of RA police told A1+.
Israelyan reportedly had a gunshot wound and is said to have committed suicide.
"At present, police officers are working on the scene. We received the report about the death at around 11.30 a.m.," a police representative told us on the phone.
Vrezh Israelyan was born in Yerevan on April 2, 1949. In 1979-1981, he worked in "Hayreniki Dzayn" (Homeland Voice) weekly newspaper. In 1982, he headed the department of Diaspora of "Soviet Armenia" magazine. In 1993-99, Israelyan was the editor of "Armenian Soldier" paper. In 1999, he was appointed as chief of Defense Ministry's Information Department.
Vrezh Israelyan's first stories were published in "Garun" (Spring) magazine.
In 1978, Israelyan received the Communist Party's "The Best Writer of the Year" award.
He is also the scriptwriter of a number of documentaries (Before and After Death, Volunteers and Politics, Suicide Bombers, Step,) depicting the Artsakh war.
