Karabakh war veterans staging sit-in in Yerevan
Volodya Avetisyan, a freedom fighter and a reserve colonel, together with a group of fellow veterans has declared a sit-in at Yerevan's Liberty Square demanding improvement of social conditions for themselves and their comrades.
The strikers are going to stay at the square for two days with flags and posters reading, "You cannot buy freedom fighters," "State law, justice," "State - supreme interest."
Earlier in May the group handed a letter to the head of the Armenian government, calling the authorities' attention to their social conditions. Avetisyan said that some of the veterans are in such a dire situation that they can't even afford to come to the capital from provinces to join the protest.
