Dentists gather outside NA building
A group of dentists are staging a protest outside the National Assembly building on Monday to express their complaint over the government's decision to make amendments to the law "On License Fees" approved in December, 2012. They demand that the legislative body reconsider the law and fix milder taxes for dentists.
Dentist Arevik Khachatryan says after the law entered into force [on January 1, 2013] the director of the clinic she was working at fired her as he could not afford to pay the tax for a second doctor.
The dentists are determined to continue the struggle until the law is reviewed otherwise they will be forced to leave Armenia in search of better working conditions overseas.
Zaruhi Postanjyan, a lawmaker of the opposition Heritage Party, approached the protesters outside the NA building and promised them to raise the issue from the NA rostrum.
The new law envisages that dental clinics will have to pay AMD 80,000 per each chair.
The dentists say that the changes will inevitably increase the prices for dental services which, in their turn, will affect the pocket of clients.
