Human side of conflict: exhibition on Artsakh conflict opens in Yerevan
One can see the portraits of Artsakh citizens in the exhibition opened by international award-winning photographer Jonathan Banks in Yerevan's Moscow Cinema.
The exhibition titled "Different Faces, Shared Hopes. The Human Side of Conflict" and dedicated to the Karabakh conflict was organized by the International Alert NGO with the financial support of the EU Delegation to Armenia.
"The exhibition aimed to capture faces of different people that vividly represent the human side of the conflict where each individual remains above all a human being with his or her right to be what they are, wherever they live," said Traian Hristea, Head of the European Union Delegation to Armenia.
The photos were taken in March-April 2011 throughout the conflict-torn region.
Marina Nagai, a representative of the International Alert NGO, said for her part, "the idea of opening an exhibition did not come at once. We simply invited Mr Jonathan Banks to photograph Artsakh. We wanted to illustrate our brochures with his beautiful photos."
The first exhibition was opened in Brussels in 2011. On that day, the people of Artsakh proved their will and determination to build their own country.
