More comments than “likes”
Social networks will be used as a means of propaganda during these elections.
The number of people registering on social networks has sharply risen ahead of the parliamentary elections. The number of Armenian Facebook users in Armenia has increased by 70,000 and has reached more than 285,000 in the last six months.
Head of Region Research Center Laura Baghdasaryan says the Internet has several advantages. There is no restriction on propaganda, it is free, fast and accessible to a large number of people at once and gives people the opportunity to reply back.
All political parties are presented on Facebook and are busy with their parties' propaganda.
However, as Baghdasaryan noted, the activity on the political parties' pages on social networks can also be different from the reality.
In that sense, the study on interaction is interesting.
Based on the research center's studies, there are more people "liking" the materials posted by political parties and figures on Facebook than there are people responding and commenting on those materials. "This goes to show that the results of Facebook can be exaggerated and artificial," said Baghdasaryan, who also mentioned that those leaving comments on the Walls of political parties are the same people and mainly the administrators.
