Paris pays tribute to Armenian victims
In late February, the Coordinating Council of Armenian Organizations in France (CCAF) planned and is currently holding events dedicated to the 24th anniversary of the Armenian victims of the Sumgait massacres.
On the morning of February 26, a liturgy dedicated to the memory of the victims of Sumgait was served at the St. John the Baptist Armenian Apostolic Church in Paris. The liturgy was attended by the Armenian Ambassador to France, the representative of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic to France, leaders and members of Armenian associations in France and numerous representatives of the French-Armenian community.
After the liturgy, the procession moved toward the statue of Komitas located near the Yerevan Garden in Paris where the participants paid tribute to the victims.
On the evening of February 27, the Coordinating Council of Armenian Organizations in France held a rally dedicated to the memory of the Armenians who fell victim to the massacres in Sumgait and other residential areas of Azerbaijan at the 9th district municipality in Paris. The participants attached importance to the idea of consolidating the potential of all Armenians for the protection of interests of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic. The event was attended by more than 400 French-Armenians, as well as French public, political, cultural figures and journalists.
The event featured a roundtable discussion with the participation of the leadership of the Coordinating Council of Armenian Organizations in France, Deputies of the National Assembly of France, the NKR Minister of Culture, as well as the representatives of the NKR and the RA Embassy in France.
The topics for discussion were the Armenian pogroms in Azerbaijan and the war, the current issues facing Nagorno-Karabakh, the inter-parliamentary cooperation between France and the NKR, the Armenian Diaspora's support to Nagorno-Karabakh to go against the propaganda of the Turks and the Azerbaijani, as well as the discrepancy between the process of negotiations over the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement and Azerbaijan's official propaganda, reports the MFA Department of Press, Information and Public Relations.
