Armenians injured in Bellagio Café blast

The Bellagio Café in Volgograd's center burst into flames at around 10p.m. Moscow time Feb. 14. According to reports, over 514 square meters of the café was damaged. The preliminary reports said that the fire was caused by an explosion of a 12-liter gas cylinder.

Of the 20 persons hospitalized after the fire started, 11 suffered severe burns. Five of them are currently in the emergency ward.

The call about the fire came in at 9:57 p.m., on Tuesday. Initially, it broke out in an area of 30 square meters, but quickly spread to 514 square meters. It was contained at 10:19, and fully extinguished at 00:01, Moscow time. The residents of the building were immediately evacuated. Later they told the fire-fighters that they had protested against the opening of the café but to no avail.

There are six Armenians among the injured at Bellagio Café explosion. According to preliminary reports, Svetlana Ghazaryan, Hovhannes Ghazaryan and Anastasia Tumanova are in critical condition.

Arthur Abrahamyan, and Anna Shahbazyan and Elena Sahakyan were hospitalized with medium-degree burns.
Criminal proceedings were opened over the fire in which 22 persons were hurt, representative of the regional department of the Investigative Committee Natalia Kunitskaya told Itar-Tass.

"The case was opened under two Criminal Code articles /"production, storage, transportation and provision of works and services not meeting the safety requirements, which resulted in grave harm to health," and "violation of fire safety rules"/.
