In Georgia, people read newspapers to learn what they have written against Armenians, says Armenian architectural expert Samvel Karapetyan.

The historian has lost confidence in Georgian authorities who say repeatedly that the Armenian historical monuments ‘are in the safe hands.'

According to Mr. Karapetyan, out of hatred towards the Armenians, Georgian leadership is engaged in the systematic destruction of Armenian monuments.

"Last year, Georgians polished and erased the last Armenian inscription from a headstone," said the expert.

The headstone had been placed at the western entrance of a Bethlehem church before it was transported to Georgia.
"The fire that burst at St. Nshan church in Tbilisi was not accidental either. It was extinguished by water which is inadmissible in case of a historical monument. They could have used sand or foam instead of water. This is not the result of ignorance but reprisal which shows Georgia's intention to destroy local Armenian monuments," he said.

Samvel Karapetyan is convinced that the Armenian government could put an end to this barbarism if it abandoned its defeatist posture.

In the end, Mr. Karapetyan offered his receipt, ""We should stand up for our honour to be respected by others."
