Tying matches syndrome
President of the European Chess Association Silvio Danailov says the number of matches tied by chess masters is on the rise and that has a direct impact on watching the match.
He brought up the example of the results of this year's international tournament in Vake an Zee where a large part of the matches were tied. He particularly mentioned that 9 out of the 13 matches between world champion Vishvanatan Anand and former champion Vladimir Kramnik have ended with a tie, while Levon Aronyan set a counter record after tying 10 matches.
Silvio Danailov suggests restricting chess rules more and making chess players compete until they lose the last figures and let the referee give the right to call it a match.
"We either have to change the rules of chess or it will cease to exist," announced Danailov.
