Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian tied his first two games at the Tata Steel Chess in Wijk-aan-Zee, Netehrlands.

After tying the games vs. Magnus Carlsen of Norway and Hikaru Nakamura of the U.S., the Armenian grandmaster gained 1 point coming the 5th on the standings.

Viswanathan Anand (India), Hikaru Nakamura, Yan Nepomnyaschiy (Russia) and Jan Smeets (Netherlands) top the standings with 1.5 points each.

On January 17, Aronian will play vs. Maxime Vachier-Lagrave of France.

In tournament B, Armenia's Gabriel Sarkissian defeated Shekhar Ganguly of India and tied a game with Wesley So of Philippines.
