No Armenians injured from earthquake
A 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck Turkey yesterday, killing 57 people and leaving 70 injured.
The earthquake struck the Elazig region in eastern Turkey. The aftershocks lasted a minute and left 6 villages located the epicenter in ruins.
The earthquake took place at night and many weren't able to escape. It was followed by nearly fifty 5-5.3-magnitude aftershocks.
Rescue efforts continue and Turkish Prime Minister Receb Tayyib Erdogan has promised to restore the destroyed residencies. Presidents of a number of countries have sent their letters of condolences to Turkish President Abdulla Gul. There were no Armenian victims during the earthquake in Elazig, as reported by the RA Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The last strongest earthquake that struck Turkey was in August and November 1999. The 8-point magnitude earthquake killed 18,000 people.
