Social

Today Vazgen Lalayan, the Judge of the First Instance Court of Center-Nork-Marash communities, proclaimed the verdict for Mushegh Saghatelyan, the ex-head of Department on Penitentiaries. "Considering how dangerous his actions were, the circumstance they have been proved during the trial as weel the fact the defendant had no criminal record before and has a bad state of health as well his participation in defence battles for frontiers of Armenia and Karabagh, the Court decided to sentence Saghatelyan to a 7-year-long imprisonment and a fine of 90.000 drams".

It is to be stated that the Prosecutor Koryun Piloyan wasn't in the Court Hall and the Judge was reading out the sentence in a tremulous voice.

Robert Grigoryan, Mushegh Saghatelyan's counsel for the defence stated: "It's a cynicism, it's a trumped-up charge against the person and not according to the fact. There are many outrages committed in the criminal case and during the preliminary investigation and inquest. And all these are treated frivolously".

The sentence will be appealed against in the Review Court , then in the Court of Appeal. But the councel for defence reposes no hopes in those. "The only thing I set my hopes on is justice",- he said.

"For 7 years I have been watching the way Courts work and I have been convinced of Courts just perform orders", - said Mikael Danielyan, the chairman of Helsinki Association of Armenia.
