NATIONAL MINORITIES AFTER ONE YEAR OF THE ROSES' REVOLUTION
Support A1+!In Georgia there was a conference on “National Minorities after One Year of the Roses’ Revolution” in which the representatives of Armenian, Russian, Azerbaijanian, Ukranian, Kurdish-Ezdish, Asian, Latvian, Lithuanian, German, Greek NGOs took part.
In the beginning of the conference the national minorities' main changes and the results after the Roses' Revolution were introduced. According to A-Info Agency, many speech makers pointed out that despite of the changes in the country, nothing had changed in the national minorities' life. They are the same as during Shevardadze's government. Even the contrary, there is a tendency in aggravation, especially the problem of language.
Especially there was an indignation connected with teaching the Georgian History and the Georgian Geography in Georgian. There was also a great indignation connected with not undertaking any steps in the economic sphere.
In the speech about Javakhk it was mentioned that after the change of the central government in Tbilisi, in Akhalkalak only the local government has changed and nothing else. During the conference the armenian participants complaint that the report about the Armenians only included Akhalkalak and Ninotsminda, while in Georgia Armenians living out of these regions make up a bigger number.
The fact that Georgia doesn’t include the national minorities to the Europian agreements is especially thoughtful. In the end of the conference it was mentioned that if the government continued the present policy concerning the national minorities, it was not excluded to undertake callous steps.
