EUROPEAN UNION TO DISCUSS TURKEY MEMBERSHIP ISSUE

European Union will hold Thursday in Strasbourg a discussion over a report proposing to start negotiations with Turkey on its possible EU membership, Anatolu Turkish news agency reports.

The agency says French and German Christian Democrats are thought to reject and English, Italian and Spanish Christian Democrats to approve the report.

The agency also says French right-wing parliamentarians are expected to put forward a proposal to make some alterations in the report.

They intend to demand the recognition the fact of Armenian genocide by Ankara.

It has become known from other sources that rallies and demonstrations will be staged in Strasbourg for and against Turkey membership in the EU.
