HMAYAK HOVANISYAN WILL BRING OPPOSITION TO PARLIAMENT

Politics

Independent MP Hmayak Hovanisyan has today collected signatures in Parliament all day long for holding a special session on December 20, at 12:00 PM. The out of turn session to be conducted on his initiative will discuss the issue of returning the money deposited in banks during the Soviet times.

Under the regulations, the term of Hovanisyan’s initiative will expire tomorrow at 2:00 PM. If 44 signatures of MPs are collected, Armenian President fixes the day of a special session. If 66 ones are collected, the initiator of signature collection will set the day and time of the out-of-turn sitting.

For the time being, Mr. Hovanisyan has managed to gather 52 signatures. What the political powers failed to do, Hmayak Hovanisyan succeeded. Coalition “split” because of the principal viewpoints inside. Members of ARF and “Republican” Party find no necessity to discuss returning of deposits in Parliament and they have refused to sign the document. Except 4 MPs, 17 members of “Land of Law” Party have joined the initiative of Hmayak Hovanisyan.

Unlike Coalition, parliamentary Opposition made a political decision. “Justice” Bloc and “National Unity” Party have partaken in signature collecting. As an exception, Opposition is going to take part in the special session.

Only Albert Bazeyan from “Justice” didn’t sign since he is out of Yerevan. ”United Labour Party” and “People’s Deputy” have participated in signature collecting partly.

Calculating the MPs who are abroad but will return tomorrow and taking into account the preliminary agreement of MPs absent from Parliament, Hmayak Hovanisyan foresees increasing the number of the signatures up to 60. He doesn’t hope for more.

However, Hovanisyan considers the result of the initiated signature collecting as positive.
