Draft on 2005 state budget became specific since for the first time in Armenia financing provided for Army will make less than that for education sphere.

The hearings on financing for the force structures of 2005 budget draft in the standing commissions of Parliament were closed. Only the sitting over financing to Defence Ministry lasted for 1,5 hours. Then Defence Minister Serj Sargssyan didn’t hide his discontent with the suggested financing.

“Discussions continue. I am sure some changes will be. I am also sure that Government will find means to allocate the Armenian Army the necessary sum, so that fighting efficiency doesn’t suffer. Armenian Government will find methods to augment it because the wages of officers, lance-corporals and soldiers must first be increased”, he said.

”I am empowered by President and Prime Minister to announce that beginning from January 1 the wages for officers will increase by 50. 000 drams, in-contract salary of lance-corporals – by 30.000 drams and for the soldiers – by 10.000 drams”, Minister said.
