5 YEARS PASSED SINCE OCTOBER 27, 1999

Politics

October 27 of 1999 was a sunny day like today. It was also Wednesday as today. It was the day of exchanging answers and questions between MPs and Government members in Parliament.

No one could even think that day would grow gloomy after noon. Approximately at 5:00 PM 5 men in arms headed by Nairi Hunanyan, burst into Parliament Sitting Hall and shot Parliament Speaker Karen Demirchyan, Armenian Prime Minister Vazgen Sargssyan, Parliament Vice-Speakers and MPs.

”October 27 trial” lasted for 3 years ended last December not disclosing the obscure facts. As surveys show majority of citizens doesn’t believe that 5 men armed could alone commit such a crime. Even Parliament Speaker Arthur Baghdasaryan expressed a standpoint that “October 27” crime wasn’t completely disclosed.

The criminals having shot the first figures of Armenia were sentenced to life imprisonment, though the relatives of victims and the society demanded to condemn them to death. The trial was dragged so much that “October 27” verdict was read out only when capital punishment was abolished in Armenia.

Hunanyan brothers and other terrorists are in jail. Defendant Vram Galstyan committed suicide in prison.

However, the society still believes that the terrorists will speak and the real masterminds of “October 27” will be disclosed some day. But that day won’t probably be soon.
