TOROSYAN IS OPTIMISTIC ABOUT COOPERATION WITH HIS POLITICAL OPPONENTS

Politics

Armenian National Assembly vice-speaker Tigran Torosyan spoke cordially of the opposition at Tuesday’s news conference.

To a journalist’s remark that there is no opposition in Armenia, Torosyan responded by saying “there was, there is, there will be the opposition: there is no need to search it”.

Torosyan’s optimism came from governing parties MPs cooperation with their political opponents at the recent PACE session in Strasbourg. He said he had personally offered the cooperation to his opposition-minded colleagues. “I am ready to offer that to everybody to bring the situation in political area to normal and recover political life in the country”, he said.

Torosyan said he found the final version of the latest PACE resolution unprecedented for its positive significance but, at the same time, reminded that the resolution adopted in Jan 2004, after which the authorities stopped worrying and the April notorious events occurred, was a good enough.

To our correspondent’s question about the authorities’ readiness to punish those committed fraud in 2003 presidential elections, Torosyan answered: ”Yes, they are ready, but laws will be revised for that”.
