LEBANON PM IS PLEASED WITH ARMENIANS… AND WHAT ABOUT ARMENIANS?

The representatives of Armenian and Lebanese Governments have today signed accords on cooperation in education and science, agriculture, culture, economy spheres.

At the end of the 2-day visit Lebanon Prime Minister Rafik Hariri answered the questions of journalists.

Commodity turnover between two countries now makes 900.000 $ annually. Both PMs are not satisfied with it. They have today promised to take steps to eliminate the obstacles in that sphere.

At present 130.000 Armenians reside in Lebanon. Rafik Hariri says they enjoy great respect there.

But the Armenians in Lebanon are discontented with Rafik Hariri. An Armenian of Lebanon informed us, some of them think that PM Hariri “split the Armenian national deputy bloc”. Our source told that the Armenian MPs of Lebanon Parliament are “people bearing no relation with the Armenian Commune”. They are businessmen who went into politics by Rafik Hariri’s persuasions. They say Rafik Hariri came to power “thanks to money”. He gained authority in Lebanon by distributing sums among citizens, poor and tired with civil war.

It is to state that there is only one Armenian Minister in the Government headed by Rafik Hariri, occupied with sport issues. “There were 2 before, who headed industry and oil spheres”, our interlocutor said. Armenians in Lebanon say the reasons are political.
