PARUYR HAYRIKYAN REPRESENTS ARMENIA IN EUROPE

As it became clear, the leader of Armenian Union for National Self-determination Paruyr Hayrikyan attended European People Party’s 16th conference though he is neither a member of Armenian People Party nor the republic authorities’ representative.

Despite that, Paruyr Hayrikyan was the only person who received an invitation to the event, because he is considered a representative of Christian-Democratic forces.

European People Party consists of 62 parties from 25 countries. Prime ministers from 20 countries attended the conference.

Turkish Foreign Minister Abdula Gul who was present at the event tried to do his best to show Turkey’s desire to join European Union.

He even said the issue of improving relations with Armenia is now being discussed in Turkey.

Any case, speaking at today’s news conference, Paruyr Hayrikyan attached great importance to the EPP’ conferences saying “the party is giving an opportunity to preserve national values”.

The Armenian politician says he doesn’t hate Russia but, at the same time, doesn’t share a view that Russia is the only Armenia’s strategic partner. “Russia cooperated with Armenia to secure its own interests there”, he said. Handover of Armenian Nuclear Power Plant to Russia, in his opinion, contradicts all international norms. It would be better the Russia to refuse to accept such a gift.

Speaking on the opposition boycott in parliament, Hayrikyan said the opposition is badly in need of an idea not a leader. He is sure it will be the idea of democracy building but not power change.
