Support A1+!The former president of Azerbaijan, Heidar Aliyev, has died aged 80 in a US hospital in Cleveland, Ohio. He had been suffering from heart and kidney problems and was admitted to the clinic in August after first being treated in Turkey.
The corpse of the former president will be transported to Azerbaijan tomorrow. 7-day-long mourning was announced for in Azerbaijan.
He became the former Soviet state's communist party boss in 1969. In 1980’s he worked in the Ministers’ Board of USSR.
In 1993 Aliyev was elected president of newly-independent Azerbaijan. A wily political operator to the end, he ensured the succession of his son Ilham as president in October.
Russian President Vladimir Putin presented his condolences over death of the former president of Azerbaijan.
