MASS MEDIA BILL IS ALREADY ON ARMENIAN NATIONAL ASSEMBY’S FLOOR
Support A1+!National Assembly members embarked on Mass Media Bill discussion today.
The law on mass media being in force since October 8, 1991 needed to be brought to correspondence with European standards.
Provisions of the new draft law don’t allow freedom of speech abuse. The bill specifies right to take legal action against journalists for libelling. This prompted discontent of considerable number of lawmakers.
National Press Club staged a protest action outside of the House of the Parliament. Journalists gathered near the entrance to the building demanding consideration of the alternative document worked out by them.
