WHAT TO EXPECT FROM ARMENIAN-TURKISH RELATIONS DEVELOPMENT
Support A1+!Talk about Armenian-Turkish relations is being resumed again. This time Armenian Democratic Party is badly concerned about them. Democrats are trying to prove that a dramatic development of Armenian-Turkish relations may pose a serious threat to Armenia.
The party leader Aram Sargssyan says if the relations develop, the certain kind of diplomatic relationship will be imposed from the outside. He explains concept of diplomatic relations very simply. It means Armenia must recognise territorial integrity of the neighbouring country. In that event, Armenia’s claims on Turkey as well as Armenian National Committee’s ideas will burst like a soap-bubble, Sargssyan says and added the relations would promote only one country, Turkey, flourishing. One step in that direction is made by Europe, which in the wake of Armenian presidential and parliamentary elections no longer insists on Armenian Genocide recognition by Turkey to let it enter the CE. Aram Sargssyan considered the CE’s change in attitude as a slap in the Robert Kocharyan’s face.
And what about borders opening, it can undermine Armenia’s economy, he says. In his opinion, inferior and cheap goods will be imported to the republic and our fragile economy may collapse completely.
Democrats would be ready to agree with Armenian-Turkish relationship development, but they fear the deals with Turkey may face the same fate as ill-thought-out transactions with “ArmenTel”, “Nairi”, Brandy factory etc, Democrats leader says.
Democrats aren’t opposed to relationship between the two countries, but they are convinced that the relations should not be established on a diplomatic field. They propose to sign a memorandum, with all both sides’ objectives specified.
The issue of Armenian-Turkish relationship is being discussed also by Justice Union, which is stuck to the same view as Armenian Democratic Party.
