CONSTITUTIONAL COURT DECIDED: DEATH PENALTY ABOLITION CORRESPONDS TO ARMENIAN CONSTITUTION
Support A1+!Constitutional Court on Tuesday discussed Human Rights Convention Protocol 6 on death penalty abolition, which was signed on January 25, 200, in Strasbourg.
Under the Protocol, none can undergo capital punishment, without exception. At the same time, the document stipulate that death penalty can be included in the law during war or under inevitable threat of war in the cases specified by the law and CE Secretary General must be keep in touch with that.
Constitutional Court found the commitments included in the Protocol not contradicting Armenian Constitution.
The Protocol still need to be ratified by Armenian lawmakers and is to be put on the National Assembly floor soon.
