Politics

Today Armenian Parliament Speaker Arthur Baghdasaryan held his fist press conference as a Parliament Chairman. During it he underlined importance of creating healthy atmosphere in the Parliament, and role of it both in home policy and abroad.

Organisation part of Baghdasaryan’s activity will be channelled to making Parliament work transparent, and the conditions up to the European standards.

Answering our question if he had changed his point of view on the present version for the Law on “Mass Information”, Baghdasaryan said: “Approving that law is among our obligations. We need a Law on Mass Information. But it will be approved after discussions in the committee. As to my standpoint to it, you know what it is” . Let’s remind that Arthur Baghdasaryan, being the Chair of “Land of Law” party, had announced in the Parliament of the previous convocation that he was against the present version of the he bill on Mass Information.

It is known that “Justice” Bloc will introduce a number of legislative initiatives to the Parliament in September, regarding deposits in particular. ”How will LLP vote over that initiative”? Mr Baghdasaryan was asked. “LL doesn’t repudiate its purpose on giving back the holdings. We have represented that issue to our coalition. We consider the issue as prior, and LLP will keep a watch on transferring back the deposits. Mechanisms must be looked for and found”, he answered.

Mr Baghdasaryan was for capital punishment abolition at the pervious Parliament, except for October 27 criminals. Now he announces: “Death penalty must be abolished not for that we meet our obligations. No one can substantiate what is a worse punishment, imprisonment for life or capital punishment” .

Recently Arthur Baghdasaryan had met Roy Reeve and Natalia Vutova. They had talked about the Criminal Code and OSCE representatives’ demand over inserting the article on blackmail from the Criminal Code to the Civic one. “I am against that various punishment for blackmail are set for officials and citizens. As to blackmail in general, we have carried out studies and found that it has been taken out of the criminal sphere only in 3 countries”.
